Dr. Joe Lyske

Dr. Joe Lyske is the co-founder of Time Machine Capital Squared (TMC²), and was the co-founder of its predecessor Time Machine Capital. Joe is a polymath, accomplished in diverse interdisciplinary fields such as artificial intelligence, film composition, game audio design, and aviation. Joe has been pushing the boundaries of creative artificial intelligence since the turn of the millennium. He has grasped elusive solutions to problems known and unknown through his knowledge of physics, sounds, mathematics, and programming. Joe’s role as CEO of MXX and Co-founder of DAACI has paved the way for him to invent over 40 distinct granted patents in artificial intelligence, encompassing a range of creations across projectile tracking, digital signal boundary classification, AI music composition and music editing, media content tracking, and artificially intelligent emotional perception technologies.

Philip is the co-founder of Time Machine Capital Squared (TMC²), and was the co-founder of its predecessor Time Machine Capital. Philip has a long history in tech ventures and most recently became a board member of Triller, a social entertainment platform based in Los Angeles, helping to raise the company’s valuation from $100m to currently $1.5b. Previous to this, Philip was the CEO of SimplexGTP, a leading SaaS fintech platform delivering highly innovative solutions to many of the world’s leading financial institutions, overseeing its sale for more than US$100m. With a strong owner/operator background, Philip advises multiple tech companies in London on strategy and is networked into a variety of tech communities globally. He has assisted in raising millions of dollars for tech start-ups on a journey which began in the late 90s in London’s financial markets, devising trading platforms for emerging instruments using new technologies.

Gary has a varied and extensive background in transaction services and the payments industry. This stems from his time at TheRoyal Bank of Scotland where over a long career he held a series of senior management positions including responsibility for managing the back-office clearing and settlement of TreasuryServices and the transaction activity and product management of InternationalPayments.Since leaving the bank Gary has worked with fintechs, corporates and banks specialising in all aspects of payments and transaction services helping them to develop effective strategies and solutions to capitalise on the commercial and competitive opportunities.

Ken was previously the head of business development UK for Triller, the globally popular AI-powered social media platform and MXX, the AI technology firm that secured over 30 patents for applications in diverse fields, including fintech, sports, music and media. Ken has twenty years of experience and an excellent track record in global direct and channel sales strategy and has introduced several innovative technologies into the UK as well as the sales models, competencies and processes while building brands, relationships and sales revenues for start-ups in new, existing and emerging markets around the world in b2b fintech, telecoms and SaaS applications.

Nadine’s PhD in Applied Mathematics specialises in machine learning and pattern recognition for content-based music analysis. Her work at TMC² addresses challenging AI problems in a variety of areas, including computer vision, machine listening, time series prediction and generative neural networks. She holds several patents in the field and has co-authored numerous journal publications and conference papers.As well as her PhD, Nadine has a BSC and MSc in Electrical and Audio Engineering, a further MSc in Sound and Music Computing, and is a former employee of the Music Technology Group, Pompeu Fabra University, where she worked on audio analysis, pattern recognition, and machine learning. Occasionally, she composes abstract electro-acoustic music and designs electronic music instruments.

Dr. Nadine Kroher

(Eng., Ph.D.): Aggelos Pikrakis is a Scientific Advisor with TMC² and an Assistant Professor with the Department of Informatics at the University of Piraeus, Greece. His research interests lie in the areas of machine learning/artificial intelligence for audio, video, speech and music signals with an emphasis on deep neural network architectures, dictionary learning algorithms, hidden Markov Models and dynamic time warping techniques. He is a co-inventor of granted patents on music recommendation technology and he has co-authored two international textbooks with Academic Press in the areas of pattern recognition and audio analysis, as well as more than 50 research papers in international journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions on ASLP, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia and IEEE ICASSP. He has also served for a number of years as an Associate Editor of the EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing.

Dr. Aggelos Pikrakis

AI Lab:

Petros Giannakopoulos is a Research Scientist with TMC², working on the creation of Machine Learning systems for a variety of applications, such as audio and image classification. His PhD, undertaken at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), focuses on leveraging Deep Reinforcement Learning for the creation of Intelligent Agents capable of interacting with visual and audio environments. He is lead author of five conference papers and one journal publication. Additionally, he holds an MSc in Control and Computing and a BSc in Physics, both from NKUA. Before TMC², he worked for two years as a Research Scientist for a funded research project of University of Piraeus, creating Deep Learning systems for audio generation and audio classification. He also worked for three years as a Machine Learning Engineer for Altered Ltd., creating Deep Learning systems for speech generation, speech classification and natural language processing. Furthermore, he worked for one year as a Research Collaborator for the National Center of Scientific Research "DEMOKRITOS", developing HPC applications for the simulation of natural processes. Occasionally, he takes part in Kaggle data science competitions where he has earned 2 bronze medals, as a solo competitor.

Dr. Petros Giannakopoulos

Helena is an engineer, researcher, and part-time musician from Barcelona. She holds a Ph.D. in Music Information Retrieval from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain), during which she investigated deep learning techniques for content-based music analysis, specifically for automatic music transcription. She has co-authored several conference and journal publication on topics at the intersection of music, machine learning, and audio signal processing.As well as her Ph.D., Helena also holds a B.Sc. in Audiovisual Systems Engineering, an M.Sc. in Sound and Music Computing, and studies in music theory, composition, and cello performance. In the last decade, Helena has actively participated in numerous Women in STEM initiatives as a mentor and workshop instructor to inspire the younger generation to pursue careers in STEM. Helena is currently a Machine Learning Research Scientist at TMC² and DAACI working on AI for music understanding tasks such as machine listening and music classification.

Juan S. Gómez-Cañón is a researcher, engineer and musician from Colombia. He holds a Ph.D. in Information and Communication Technologies from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain). During his Ph.D., Juan researched human-centered and trustworthy machine learning methods to predict the emotions in music. He has co-authored several conference and journal papers on deep learning, human-centered design, personalization, dataset curation, and digital signal processing. Juan also holds a M.Sc. in Media Technology (TU Ilmenau, Germany), a B.Sc. in Electronics Engineering and a B.A. in Music (Los Andes, Colombia). He is currently a Machine Learning Research Scientist at TMC² researching personalization, modeling users' taste, and recommendation systems for media.

With diverse creative experience in algorithmic music, creative computing, architecture, and product design, Adam He shifted his career to AI music in 2020 by undertaking PhD research on Machine Audio Synthesis for Electroacoustic Composition, at Creative Computing Institute, University of the Arts London, where he has been trained to be a machine learning specialist with a focus on AI music generation. He joined DAACI in 2022 and has been the main technological contributor to the innovative project Drum Pattern Mine & Match. To extend further his research towards a more DAACI-specific direction, Adam will transfer his current PhD to another programme, UKRI Centre of Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence and Music, at Queen Mary University of London, starting from 2023.

Fabio Rodríguez is currently in his third year of the Ph.D. programme in Mathematics at the University of Seville. His research focuses on algorithms, computational theory, mathematics, data science, and machine learning. Currently, he is applying computational techniques to address diverse problems in the industry. Fabio has co-authored numerous research papers published in esteemed journals. Moreover, he actively participates in many international conferences related to algorithms and machine learning. He holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Seville and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Havana.

Antonis is a young, aspiring Data Scientist from Athens, Greece. He's earned an M.Sc. in Applied Data Science from the University of Utrecht and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Informatics Department at the University of Piraeus. Throughout his academic journey, he explored various areas of Machine Learning, but his interest lies in Natural Language Processing, as both of his thesis projects revolved around leveraging transformers and other architectures to solve text classification and machine translation problems. Currently, Antonis works as a Machine Learning Engineer at TMC2, focusing on AI applications for music information retrieval tasks.

Iniaki is a driven and accomplished data scientist pursuing innovative applications of machine learning. He recently completed a Master's in Data Science with top marks, adding to his outstanding academic foundation of a First Class BSc in Financial Mathematics. Currently, Iniaki is focused on leveraging his passion for math, statistics, and coding as a Junior ML Engineer. He is assisting in developing cutting-edge algorithms for pattern detection in stock market data and fraud detection in cryptocurrencies.

I have now transitioned into the role of Junior Machine Learning Engineer. My portfolio includes machine learning projects from my academic career, including a standout senior thesis on Facial Recognition and an internship as a machine learning developer at the e-Government Authority of Tanzania.

Prior to AEMS, Ken was Chief Operating Officer of Instinet International, following a five-year tenure at Merrill Lynch as Global Head of Architecture for the Corporate and Institutional Client Group. Ken holds a D.Phil in Atomic Spectroscopy from Oxford University and a B.Sc. in Physics from Imperial College.

Bruce has more than 35 years’ experience as an entrepreneur and business leader, predominantly in the hospitality sector. He has advised businesses through startup to scaleup, being actively involved in fundraising, strategy, direct management of teams and personnel development. He has particularly focused on turnarounds, growth and re-direction of companies through consultancy, working in both interim management and long-term roles.

Over the course of his career, Bruce has worked across a variety of sectors, including AI, telecoms, hospitality, retail and transport.

Most recently he was the first senior hire at Stability AI, joining as Interim Chief Operating Officer pre-funding in 2022. He assisted the founders in creating an investable business, working with the company through the initial $100m funding at a unicorn valuation. Post-investment he was acting Head of People, recruiting senior executives at the C-suite level to lead the business.

Paul James has had a distinguished career marked by his adept management of transformative change in Financial Services and fintech. As the founder of Kalyxa in 2018, an investment vehicle, Paul successfully launched key ventures, including the AI platform Jaid, the fiat and crypto payments platform Ziglu, and the digital consultancy Fimatix.

His leadership extends to diverse early-stage ventures in Banking, IT, and social media. Paul played a pivotal role in creating a mobile-based sports news community in East Africa, innovating a retail banking platform in the UK, and actively collaborating with early-stage technology companies, particularly in fintech. His extensive experience and multifaceted contributions make him a valuable asset to any advisory board, particularly in navigating financial transformations and fostering innovation.

Mr. Ghazzawi has also served on the board of the Young Presidents’ Organization in the United Arab Emirates, the MENA Regional Board, and the East West Institute think tank in New York.
